Who We Are
Close a Company is built by a small team that has been through the business closure process firsthand. We know how overwhelming it can feel — the paperwork, the state-specific requirements, the tax obligations, and the emotional weight of shutting something down that you built from scratch.
We created Close a Company because we believe every business owner deserves clear, actionable guidance for this process — not a $10,000 invoice from a law firm.
What We Do
We research, write, and maintain the most comprehensive DIY business dissolution resources available. Our materials cover LLCs, corporations (C-corps and S-corps), sole proprietorships, and partnerships across all 50 states and Washington DC.
Everything we publish is based on primary sources: state Secretary of State websites, IRS publications, SBA.gov guidance, and the actual statutes that govern business dissolution in each jurisdiction.
Our Products
We offer three core products designed to work together or stand alone:
- The Closing a Company Guidebook — A 17-chapter guide that walks you through every phase of business dissolution, from the initial vote to close through final tax filings and record retention.
- The Closing a Company Template Pack — 45 customizable templates for board resolutions, creditor notifications, employee letters, customer announcements, and every other document you need during the closure process.
- State Playbooks — Individual guides for all 50 states plus DC, covering your state’s exact filing forms, fees, tax clearance procedures, timelines, and agency contacts.
Our Approach
We write in plain English. No legal jargon without explanation. No vague advice. Every guide includes specific steps, the exact forms you need, current filing fees, and links to official government sources so you can verify everything yourself.
We update our materials regularly — legal requirements change, fees increase, and online filing portals get redesigned. When something changes, we update our guides to match.
Important Disclaimer
Our materials are educational guides. They are not legal, tax, or financial advice, and they are not a substitute for consulting with a licensed professional in your state. We always recommend working with an attorney or accountant for complex situations — but for straightforward dissolutions, our guides give you everything you need to handle it yourself with confidence.
